This Kavango 0039 basket is the direct descendant of the undyed coil baskets traditionally made by Kavango crop farmers to store, transport and winnow harvested cereals. Coils of palm stalks or indigenous grasses are wrapped and bound with natural and dyed palm leaf strands, using an awl. The fibre is sustainably sourced from indigenous ‘Makalani’ palm trees. The wide range of colours are obtained from indigenous plant dyes.
