This Kavango 0042 is the direct descendant of the undyed coild baskets traditionally made by Kavango crop farmers to winnow and store harvested cereals.

The wide ranges of colours are achieved with indigenous plant dyes. The roots, leaves and bark of indigenous shrubs and trees are collected, pounded and boiled to create an attractive palette of ochres, browns, charcoal, purple and pink.
